Que Crawl

The best restaurant on wheels in the South

When chef Nathaniel Zimet realized that food was truly his largest passion, he left the Wake Forest pre-law program to attend Le Cordon Bleu.  After several jobs in renowned New Orleans restaurants, he launched his own operation inside a big, purple truck.  Thus was born Que Crawl.

Today, Que Crawl is a New Orleans institution.  This modest-appearing snack truck offers such surprising delicacies as cochon de lait (roast suckling pig) po’ boys served on Vietnamese French bread, spicy boudin balls, duck cracklins (spicy, crunchy, partially melted chunks of duck fat laced with meat), fish and papaya egg rolls, grit fries (imagine french fried make from thick cheese grits instead of potato), and Krispy Kreme bread pudding.  It’s like a surprise box of late-night delights for drunk revelers.

Recently, Zimet opened a brick and mortar daytime counterpart to Que Crawl, Boucherie, at 8115 Jeannette St. for those who want to try a similar menu at reasonable prices that include a chair and table.  Que Crawl, however, will continue to reign throughout the night.  Want a fabulous treat for nearly nothing?  Order the grit fries, which come with a heavy dose of homemade barbeque sauce for only two dollars.

Que Crawl sometimes visits other locations, but it can usually be found catering through the wee hours outside Tipitina’s, a popular music venue at the corner of Napoleon Avenue and Tchoupitoulas Street.  Que Crawl also provides on-site catering, if you just happen to be throwing a party in New Orleans—impress your guests with the best street food that Cajun country has to offer!
